Navigating the complexities of race, ethnicity and religion

In this episode we interview with Rabbi Perry who is Bi-racial,  and Imam Byrant. Both discusses their unique background and journey towards embracing Orthodox Judaism and Islam. Rabbi Perry describe growing up with a Black father and an Ashkenazi Jewish mother, both musicians, in a culturally diverse but not particularly Torah-observant household. The father’s side of the family had a strong musical heritage, including a great-grandfather who was the first African-American to earn a PhD in writing music and became a professor at Tennessee State University. The mother’s family fled the Bolshevik Revolution, with some members settling in New York and becoming musicians.
